Thank you so much for subscribing, Ripa. Lovely to have you on board! And I definitely know what you mean about the courage it takes to submit things - often more so than posting on social media. Sometimes I think aiming for a certain number of rejections (rather than acceptances) can help with that, as it takes the pressure off a bit. Good luck with sending your work out!
This is such a great post, Katie! I'm glad you popped up on my feed this evening. Can I add The Wild Muse Nature Writing Prize, which I launched this year and offers some cash prizes and the chance to be read by a literary agent? We're closed for entries now as the judging takes place, but we'll open again in March 2025. https://gabrielablandy.org/nature-writing-prize
Hi, Katie, as you know I'm Cumbrian born and bred (and intending to return to live full time within the next few years) but living in Northumberland at the moment. Does that exclude me from, for example, the Cumbrian Literary Facebook group or would it be a good idea to network into that now, do you think?
Thank you very much for this - I came via Sian Meades-Williams' recommendation.
I wondered if you'd had any qualms about staying on Twitter in the current environment. I saw this yesterday: https://www.healthpovertyaction.org/take-action-now/stop-being-complicit/ - a low-commitment pledge that asks people to _also_ post on BlueSky when tweeting (might be an approach that gives you space and time to rebuild your audience on the new platform). Anyway, just thought I'd say, as it jars a bit these days when people mention Twitter, sad to say.
Aaaah, thank you for sharing! x
I upgraded to paid to read this. I have a 20k following on my X poetry account but just don't have the courage to submit in the real world.
A valuable insight. Much appreciated.

Amazing - hope you’ve got some great submissions! And yes, please do flag up again in March!
We’ve had some outstanding submissions! It’s going to be hard to create the longlist when there’s so much gold!

I think you'd be fine to join it, Hilary!
